Martin’s piano playing talent was spotted at the age of 6 when he spontaneously started to play radio tunes fluently by ear.

By the age of 18 he had left the family home in Wales and moved to London having been awarded a place at The Royal College of Music where he went on to achieve both Performers’ and Teachers’ diplomas in addition to completing his Advanced Study Certificate in Piano Performance (post-graduate year).

After completing full-time education Martin concentrated his playing on light and pop music genres, expanding his already extensive repertoire of pieces. Recording sessions for numerous European artists/bands followed, including becoming pianist/keyboard player with indie band Shelleyan Orphan from 1986 to 1991 which also included being the main support act for The Cure on their their 1989 Prayer Tour throughout Europe, Canada and the USA.

Martin’s diverse repertoire of romantic ballads, pop and classical standards, film themes and show tunes, coupled with his exceptional improvisatory skills, has resulted in many invitations to perform, including residencies, at locations such as: The Ivy, The Café Royal, Fortnum & Mason (St. James’s Restaurant), The Lanesborough Hotel, The Goring Hotel, The Westbury Hotel, The Cumberland Hotel, The Basil Street Hotel, The San Carlo Restaurant (Highgate), La Gaffe Restaurant (Hampstead), The Hurlingham Club (Fulham) and 1:1 Café / Brasserie (Chelsea).

In addition to his work as a session musician and solo pianist, Martin also makes time to compose short, mainly electronic mood pieces.

Martin is a member of the Musicians’ Union, one of the leading music industry bodies in Europe representing over 30,000 musicians across the music business.
He also holds a valid Public Liability Insurance certificate.

Martin has provided ‘background’ for several of my family functions, including weddings and birthday parties. He sets the tone for the evening beautifully with his extensive repertoire whilst maintaining a discreet and unobtrusive manner. I would highly recommend Martin and will need to find an excuse for another party if only to have him there with his beautiful music! Thank you, Martin, for helping to make our functions so successful.
Angela Wilson, London
Very well done!...A joy to hear. I've known some outstanding pianists. With appreciation and best wishes.
Jack O'Brien, Cape Cod, USA
The music was great!
Geoffrey Robinson, London
Martin plays all the tunes and created just the right atmosphere.....just the right person to play at my party.....An excellent pianist whom I shall book again.
Adrian Gunning, London
It was such a welcome change to have quiet music. I hope you give enjoyment for a long time to come.
Brenda Bakes, Hull
